Body Vision Studios; where mind & mody connect
Pilates for Golf

Body Vision Studio focuses on golfers and leveraging the Pilates method to enhance their game. We invested and conducted an 8 week study of golfers and the effects of Pilates on the golfer, their game and technique. The results were astounding. We called the initiative the X Factor Program.

Body Vision Studio understands the mechanics of the swing and can help you apply that knowledge to your physical conditioning to enhance your game. If you are a Golfer, Body Vision Studio is the place for you.

Benefits achieved through participation in the X Factor Pilates for Golf program:

  • Quantitative Measures
    • Drive distance: 10 to 25 yard increase
    • Shoulder Rotation: 8 to 10 degree increase
    • Hip Rotation: 8 to 16 degree increase

  • Qualitative Measures
    • Accuracy/Consistency: Improved in 100% of participants.
    • Fatigue: Improved in 100% of participants.
    • Concentration: Improved in 100% of participants

Why the name X-Factor?

XFactor is a meaningful term to golfers. It also grabs your attention and makes you take notice.

The X-Factor is a measure of the difference between shoulder rotation and hip rotation at the top of the swing. For example, if at the top of their swing, a golfer’s shoulders have rotated 85 degrees and their hips rotated 50 degrees, their X-Factor would be 35 degrees. The greater the X Factor number, the more their torso has coiled or ‘wound up’ and when used effectively, this can relate to faster rotation on the downswing resulting in more power, faster clubhead speeds and greater distance.

Client Testimonials:

“ I wasn’t sure I’d see much of any results in the 8 week program. I started to see results after a few weeks. I myself am having a hard time believing all the results just from doing pilates twice a week and participating in the XFactor Program. Never in my wildest dreams did I think the XFactor Program would affect me to this degree. I’m not practicing and I am scoring in the 70’s! I didn’t do that last year and I was practicing all the time. I was playing in the high 80’s. Its probably been three years since I had a round in the 70’s. The people I play with have seen how my game has improved over the last 8 weeks and they say ‘I need to get involved in that.’ I would always get really fatigued at hole 11 or 12 and lose focus and concentration. But now I don’t get at all fatigued and I feel like I could keep playing even after the round is over. I played three rounds in the 70’s and I got a hole in 1!”

“ I am very pleased with the results (of the XFactor Program). This was different that anything else I have ever done before. All I ever did before was nautilus machines. I never worked the rotation and with resistance before. The first day it was the hardest thing I ever tried to do physically, then I got used to it…but it was still hard. I am more limber and able to rotate more (in my hips and my shoulders). I played Monday and had the best game I had in years. I took 10 or 11 strokes off my game! I would absolutely recommend this program to other golfers.”

- Charlie Mizell, Golfer Participant

“Through the XFactor Program I identified certain physical barriers in my swing that hindered my game. I strengthened the problem areas and incorporated that change into my swing and (was able to) go ahead and improve my overall game.

“I liked the program a lot. It’s a great program. I greatly improved my shoulder rotation and hip rotation which has helped me strike the ball more cleanly, more accurate and with more power – crisp. I’ve added 15 yards to my drive and 5 strokes off my game, this after having shoulder surgery six months ago. I have consistently shot in the 80’s after the XFactor Program when I had been in the 90’s.

“After shoulder replacement surgery 6 months ago I improved my game, I have no more pain like I use to during or after play and I am in much better shape through out my whole body. I don’t get fatigued. I can easily play 36 holes in 100 degree heat and not get fatigued or sore. I think it helped me get in better shape, strengthen my core, stretch and strengthen my shoulder and improve my game.”

- Tim Spink, Golfer Participant

“By participating in the Xfactor program I have had great improvements in strength, my stamina is much better and I have added 20 to 30 yards to my drive. Before I started the XFactor Program I was so unaware of my core I couldn’t even do a sit up. I have gained a lot of body awareness in general. I use to lag after 9 holes, my muscles would tire and I would start slapping at the ball. Now I can stay focused through the 14th or 15th hole.

“I had good balance before but now my balance is so much better. I had a reverse pivot. My body would fall backward. Now I can maintain my spine angle and keep my balance. I believe I made these improvements because now I understand the mechanics of the swing physically and not just mentally.

“My club selection has been affected in a good way. I have had to redo my iron selection because I have added so much distance to my hitting. Even my short game is better.”

- Maureen Sutton, Golfer Participant

Comments from a Pro Golfer:

What did Brett Gorney, Golf Pro, expect to see in terms of results?

“I expected to see improvements in core strength, flexibility and overall feeling of well-being in the participants due to the pilates workouts. I honestly didn’t think we’d get such noticeable improvements in their golf games as we did…especially since I really just analyzed their swings and pointed out their faults as they related to their faults in body mechanics. No real lessons were given other than on course playing lessons.”

What did he find?

“I found that by explaining the relationships between their body mechanics and how those relate to their golf swing mechanics, the participants were able to improve their golf games much faster without much guidance from me….which as a golf instructor having taught thousands of lessons, is very impressive.”
